When you're trying to conceive, it can be frustrating to see repeated negative pregnancy tests. One of the most important decisions in your fertility journey is understanding when is the right time to see a fertility specialist.
When Should You See a Fertility Doctor?
The American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) has developed helpful guidelines:
- Women who are under 35 should see a fertility specialist if they have not conceived after 12 months of unprotected sex.
- When women reach the age of 35, they should see a fertility specialist if pregnancy has not occurred after six months of trying.
- Additionally, couples with a history of fertility problems should see a specialist when they want to try for a baby. Examples of fertility problems include endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), low sperm count, a family history of early menopause, or a history of cancer treatment.
